The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) is a 5-year professional undergraduate degree that includes 4 years of academic coursework and 1 year of compulsory rotatory internship. It is the only recognized undergraduate dental program in India, regulated by the Dental Council of India (DCI), and it qualifies graduates to practice as licensed dental surgeons.
The BDS curriculum combines theoretical knowledge with clinical training, covering subjects such as oral anatomy, dental materials, pathology, prosthodontics, periodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery, and public health dentistry. Students gain hands-on experience in dental clinics and hospitals, treating real patients under supervision.
